When the Wind Blew Through Her Hair

Dream of horses, M. Mair, original painting

Dream of Horses, Margaret Mair, original art

When the wind blew through her hair
And the hooves pounded the earth
And the strong body
Beneath her
Ran and ran
As if it could
Never stop,
As if it could
Fly from the earth,
And she felt
The muscles gather
And she rode
The broad back
Away and away
Into the future –
Then she felt strong
And whole
And wholly balanced
And as if the world
Could never choose
What she should be,
What she could be,
For the strength flowed into her
And the world moved past her
As she chose
And she chose
To be free.
