A Dusty Pink Couch, Margaret Mair, original art
A dusty pink couch
In an old beige-walled apartment
Overlooking the harbour
Is an odd place for making
Life-changing decisions,
A strange port to cast off from
On an uncertain voyage
In a trusty blue sailboat
Along a weather-beaten coast
Blessed with quiet inlets
And safe harbours
To snug up in
Before we turn our bow
To travel up a mighty river
In the changeable days
Of late summer,
Sometimes riding kind winds
Through swift currents,
Sometimes finding quiet anchorages
Protected by bays and islands,
Sometimes sheltering in marinas
From wild windy storms;
All to complete a circle
Begun years before
Sailing around
Our own small piece
Of this vast watery blue globe.

A fascinating, storytelling poem, Margaret. I hope you’re doing well.
And related to my other story, as you might guess. There have been many changes this summer – for the better, but still it takes time to settle into a new routine!
I hear you. Hoping all goes well.
There’s a wistfulness, nostalgia and lightness in this Margaret.
It’s thoughts from a time when life changed. I’m glad I was able to convey those feelings, Andrea.
