The Trees

We, the trees, M. Mair, original art

We, the Trees, Margaret Mair, Original art

We, the trees,
Reach for the sky
With upstretched arms,
Looking sunward
Through a frothy lace
Of vivid leaves.
We, the trees,
Welcome the patter
Of gentle rain
On earth and
All around us.
We, the trees,
Bow deep under
Driving drops
Onslaught.
We, the trees,
Dance to
The wind’s music.
We, the trees,
Cleanse your air
And filter your water.
We, the trees,
Give our wood
To make your homes
And furniture
And books,
Your fences and
Your benches.
We, the trees,
Give ourselves
Completely
In life and death
To the world
We find ourselves in.
Do you?
