One of my dear friends, Linda, found a deep resonance in the words I wrote here. Now I am sharing this post again with her in mind, for to all intents and purposes she is lost to us who were her friends, along with many of the memories that once were hers. For Linda, for everyone who is facing their own struggles, for family and friends I love, for all those I wish I could shelter from life’s storms – this is for you.

We Are Islands, Margaret Mair, original art
We are stronger together,
Our dreams entangled,
Our hopes entwined.
We are stronger together,
Guarding our selves
While
Guarding each other.
Today
Sun may bless us
And blue skies cover us
Resting here easy on
A quiet ocean bed.
But there are dark clouds
In the misty distance
And trouble will come;
Let us take this vow
Now,
So that when
Days grow hard
And
The winds of fate howl
Like angry wolves
At the gate
When
The sea grows rough
Mountainous waves tumbling
In cascades of foam
Across each other,
When the sun hides
Behind a grey turmoil
Of clouds,
We will
Protect each other
From the onslaught,
Will hold on to each other
Strong and stronger,
Surviving the storm
Together.

A powerful prayer, Margaret, and a beautiful reminder for all who suffer that everyone is irreplaceable and deserving of sanctuary..
Thank you, Carol. I think everyone does indeed deserve a place to shelter, a sanctuary from the storm.
I loved this, Margaret. Powerful and touches the heart deeply.
Thank you, Mer. From my heart to yours.
May we all survive the storm together. Thank you Margaret.
May we all indeed, Sarah.
Oh, Margaret. I love this, and even moreso because of your mention of Linda.
It always makes me think of her, Cynthia, with a strange mixture of pleasure and sadness. I’m glad you love it.
