Mischief, M. Mair, original art

Mischief, Margaret Mair, Original art

A smiling face
Appears suddenly
From behind the door,
Curious eyes wide,
Ready to be welcomed
Or be gone;
He can take flight
On the turn of a heel
In a rustle of clothes
With the slap of bare feet
And the click of a latch
And the whisper
Of a closing door,
Face disappearing
In the blink of your eye.
But wait:
This might be the day
He says hello sweetly,
Beckons you out
With an inviting wave
To come and share
A little time with him –
So little time
So quickly gone.
