Looking For a New Day

Sailing Toward Sunrise, Margaret Mair, original art

Lonely is a sailboat
Quietly ghosting
Toward the embrace
Of a glowing horizon,
Hoping to find
Joy in a sunrise
And follow the warmth
Through a beauty of days
To an untrammelled place
Where love touches lives
And peace washes over
Dark, ugly fault lines.
A dreaming place
Beyond the shadows
Cast by dark clouds
Flowing ragged across
Sun’s bright orb,
A freedom place
Where we can all share
A gift of light
That brightens our path
And fiery warmth
That comforts our souls
Remembering still
Not to soar too high
Nor gaze too direct
Lest we burn our wings
And plunge blindly
Into the darkness
Of a wicked world.
