Hope Comes Stealing Through

Stealing Through, M. Mair, original art

Stealing Through, Margaret Mair, original art

When darkness falls
Over the world outside
Glimmers remain:
Glitters of starlight,
Curtains of northern lights,
Gentle glow of moonlight
Falling through the velvet
Embrace of the night.
When darkness falls
Where dreams abide
Hope steals shyly by:
Barely glimpsed in starlight,
Ghostly under northern lights,
Dim-lit by moonlight,
Flitting by just on
The edge of knowing.
Quiet hope steals
The darkness
From the night
And slips away
Leaving an echo
Of her lightness
In the shadowy space
Behind our lids,
Reminding us
It is darkest when
We close our eyes
Unless we close them
To dream of the light.
