Pools of Darkness

Pools of Darkness, M. Mair, original pencil work

Pools of Darkness, Margaret Mair, original art

What lies inside
Those pools of darkness
Glimpsed behind
The moonlit softness
Of misty grey clouds?
Where have the stars
Gone to shed
Their faraway light?
The sky is low
And very black.
Even the moon
Hides her gentleness
From our hopeful eyes,
Lending only
An echo of light
To reveal our way.
Pray for the passing
Of the night,
Pray for the coming
Of the light,
Pray that the lifting clouds
Reveal a sky
Blessed and bright,
Reveal a world
More warm and kind
Than the world
That yesterday passed
Into the dying night.
