Love and Care For, Margaret Mair, Original art

My children,
Know that
Love is not specific
It is given freely
And once given
It is not spent
But grows infinitely;
It spreads like Lady’s Mantle
Over unprotected ground
With sheltering leaves
And tiny flowers of beauty,
Blessing all it touches.
Love holds but
Does not confine,
Its open-spread hands
Release the beloved to
Spread their wings
Amid the airy beauties
Of the infinite sky,
Its heart beats
To the rhythm
Of the deep sea tides
And the turning earth,
It moves with each
And all the loved
Step by wandering step
Along their twisting path
Across life’s rich
And changeable
Terrain.
My children,
Know that
Love will always hold you
Close and deep,
Will watch over you
As you grow,
Will bless you
Wholeheartedly
As you go.

  1. So wise and beautiful, Margaret. I hope all goes well with you and yours.

  2. As Cynthia says, your poetry is wise and wonderful, Margaret, and the artwork, exquisite in its clarity and simplicity.
