Invitation

An Invitation, M. Mair, original painting

An Invitation, Margaret Mair, original art

What whispers in the wind?
What shimmers in the water?
What quiet invitation creeps
Into the thoughtful ear?
What draws the searching eye?
What world invites you there?
You are poised
On the thin edge
That cuts between
Staying and flying away,
Listening head-bent to
Catch that subtle voice
Only you can hear,
Caught somewhere between
The bright over-arch
Of the sun-blessed sky
And the bitter shade
Of that dark old tree
Branched and rooted
And anchored to earth
Yet twisting to reach
Heaven’s embrace.
Will you too
Set yourself free
To reach so high
And higher?

  1. Lovely ode to stretching toward the beauty and divine in life. Thanks, Brad

  2. This one speaks to my heart, Margaret. It expresses so well what so many of us experience.
