This Island, Man

Island of Man, Margaret Mair, original art

Each one, every one
Casts a long shadow:
Man, islands and clouds;
Shadows grow longer
At day’s open and close;
Sunset and sunrise
Color tumultuous waters
And tumbling clouds
With shades of caution,
Orange flames writhing
Across a moving cloudbank,
Across a restless sea.
Long deep blue shadows
Create shifting illusions
Of cool quiet valleys,
Small places of rest.
To tuck a body into
To hold a dream of peace.
And so we dream.
