The Hurricane Tree

Hurricane Tree (Miami), Margaret Mair, original art

Wind blasted,
Flood battered,
Sun wizened,
The small tree
Clings to earth
And to life
With its few
Stubborn
Still-buried
Roots
Straggling through
Earthy gaps
In the rocks.
Green shoots
May rise,
New leaves
May sprout,
From within the
Skeletal remains
A younger tree
May be born,
New branches
And new leaves
Moving upward,
Seeking, reaching,
Unfurling
As they find
A calmer world,
A gentler rain,
A softer light.

  1. Indeed, Margaret. Indeed.
    You’ve created another beauty.
