A Wake Behind

A Wake Behind, Margaret Mair, original art

There is no moving boat
But leaves a wake behind,
No splashing stone but
Creates a widening ripple,
No life lived but
It touches all around
With light and dark
And moments of sparkling
Intensity.
As lacy remnants fade
Into the watery distance
And ripples grow ever smaller,
So lives return to quietude
And all those loved
Find in our memories’ embrace
A peaceful acceptance
And warm grace.

  1. Your poem graced your picture Margaret. Are you familiar with Gift from the sea by Anne Morrow Lindburgh – the trough between the waves/wake in your painting brought her words to mind too.
