Fly Free

A bird flies free
Bursting upward
Toward the silky blue
Of an endless sky,
Let loose from earth-
Bound captive hands
Like a winged wish
Suddenly set free
From the yearning heart
Of a hopeful girl
Who shyly dreams
Of warming the world
With love as strong
As the fire of the sun
She lifts her face toward,
Feeling its heat
Absorbed into
The dark soil beneath
Her bare feet
And rising through
The fibres of her being
To warm her heart
And light her mind
And set her dreams
To flying.
