For Poetry You Need Wings…

For Poetry You Need Wings, Margaret Mair, original art

For poetry
You need wings
To draft up
On a shimmering
Thermal of thought,
To hover
Wide-spread
On the wind
Of a thousand
Beautiful words,
To soar
Above
The clamoring din
Of discordant sounds,
To dip
And glide
On shifting currents
Over a changing world,
To dive
Into a wealth of
Tiny details
Caught with
Hawk-like clarity;
Then
Poetry gives
Its winged gift
Of words
That
Dream and hope
And ponder,
Lifting who
Listens
Away from
Their here
And their now
To soar.
