Fire on the Roof…

Fire on the Roof, Margaret Mair, Original art

Fire on the Roof, Margaret Mair, Original art

The light of
The setting sun
Fights through
A chaos of clouds
To lay itself
In lines of fire
Along the roof
Of the speeding train;
Lines that flare
Toward us
In a warm glow
Gently calling us
Back to the day
We are leaving,
Inviting us to
The pleasures of
Reflection and
Remembrance
Before thought fades
Into the night
And we dream,
Travelling cocooned
Through darkness
Toward daylight.

  1. Again! Both poem and painting are stunning.

    • Thanks, Cynthia. I’m so glad you appreciate them! It’s wonderful when something I’ve created touches someone else.

  2. In addition to loving the painting and the poem, I’ll now use the idea of seeing sunset rays as an invitation to remember the pleasures and events of the day.
