Portrait of Blue

Blue is the colour
Of the sky
when it smiles on us
And the water
When it smiles
Back at the sky;
The colour
Shining softly in
The iridescent wings
Of a butterfly,
Blazing in
The heart-fire deep
In a sapphire,
Glowing in
The delicate petals
Of a forget-me-not,
Trumpeting richly
From the dewy petals
Of a morning glory.
Mountains fade back
Into the blue air,
And our world is
A cloudy blue planet,
Revolving.
I want to
Hover weightless
In the smile
Between sky and water,
Float delicately
On iridescent wings,
Share the beauty
In my blazing heart,
Open my petals
And show my face
To the glory of
The morning sun,
Fade into blue mists
Of distance
And be one
With this blue world.

  1. Oh, you’ve inspired me. There’s no exterior blue today, so I’ll search for the interior blue, which is certainly not sadness, but beauty and passion.

  2. gloriously richly vastly BLUE – opposite of what i usually identify as “the blues”!!
    i, too, wish to
    “Hover weightless
    In the smile
    Between sky and water”…
    i will join you there.
