Bicycle Boy, Flying

Bicycle Boy, Margaret Mair, Original art

Bicycle boy
Glimpsed as we turned
A corner
Past an old stone wall
And a small square
On a dirty road
Leading to yet
Another hard-edged town;
Working hard,
Concentrating on
Lifting your bike
Like a plane
Taking off,
Like a bird
Taking flight;
Reaching into the air
As if back wheel
Would follow front
And that bike would
Fly away
And you
With it.

  1. I’ve never heard the phrase ‘hard edged town’ but it makes sense. Great use of words.
